Counting Blessings

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I know that we did. We are so fortunate to have the things we have and to live the lives that we live. We are also fortunate enough to have love, one another and our wonderful family and friends.

These past few weeks have been very busy for us. We were in Jamaica, went to Nashville, brought home a puppy and had Christmas. Jamaica was amazing and a much needed vacation. It was beautiful and I didn't want to leave. I will definitely return. Nashville was fun because we got to go to the ICE exhibit and we went to see the Rockettes. I know it wasn't Fred's "cup of tea", but he was nice enough to indulge me for a night. And bringing home Knox has been one of the greatest joys in my life. I also can't believe that Christmas is already behind us. Perhaps this 77 degree weather has something to do with that.

We've been working on potty training and trying to get Willie, my parents' dog, used to having Knox around. Neither have been easy tasks and we're not even close to being complete. But, you do what you can and you keep working at it.
Knox has been such a joy to be around. He has this presence about him. I love watching him learn new things and it's really made me enjoy more of the simple things in life. And that is always a blessing!

I hope that 2009 is as good to us as 2008 was. I look forward to what the future holds. My new year's resolution will be to count my blessings daily. Sometimes we take them for granted, but I want to make sure that I realize just how fortunate I am.

Knox Barksdale Smithwick

It's official...Fred and I are now the proud parents of a 5-week-old dachshund puppy. I'd like to introduce Knox Barksdale Smithwick. He was born on November 1, 2008.
We drove to the Nashville area yesterday and picked him out. We were able to meet his mother and father. His mother is a light, red short hair and his father is a black and tan short hair. Both are miniature dachshunds. He is adorable and I can't wait to bring him home. The bad thing is that we can't bring him home until the 21st of December, but I know that it'll be well worth the wait.

Baby Smithwick??

Greetings! Here's a little bit about us:
We were married on April 5, 2008. We honeymooned on the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian islands. We live right outside of Memphis, Tennessee. We both work in the marine industry and we're expecting...no, not a baby, but a dog!

Fred and I have been searching for a dachshund puppy. You know, weenie dogs. Well, thanks to one of Fred's college friends, Emily, we think that we have found a breeder just south of Nashville.

This is the perfect time to add an addition to the Smithwick family. After December 12 (my birthday), Fred and I will be off of work for three weeks. We are leaving for a family vacation to Jamaica on the 13th and after we return, Fred is taking me to Nashville to see the Rockettes perform on the 20th. Since we'll already be in Nashville, we're going to pick out our puppy on the 21st! What a wonderful early Christmas present?! I am so excited!

We've been discussing names and I think we've decided on one, but it'll be a secret until we introduce him to the world. Stay tuned for updates...
