No Assembly Required

Fred and I went to get some groceries on Saturday night and ended up purchasing a bench and patio furniture.

We picked up the furniture last night and we were told that there wasn't any assembly required. Yeah, right. It took us two hours, but we finished it. And the final products:

Beach Trip is Back On

As I was wandering through Hobby Lobby this afternoon, I received a call from Best Beach Getaways. It was a woman rather than my friend, Keith. They went ahead and confirmed our reservation; so, it looks like we'll be heading to the beach in May. I'm interested to see how everything pans out. I will keep you posted.

I guess something happened and Keith gave in. I am a bit under the weather today and I didn't feel like fighting the fight; so, I was surprised when I saw the 850 number. From the pictures online, the place looks really nice and better than the one we had originally chosen. I am going to be optimistic and hope for the best!

Panama City, here we come (I guess)!

Now Hiring

Fred and I still don't know what the future holds for us and our jobs. We've started the job search and we're so thankful for those of you who have given us leads on jobs or recommendations. If you know of any jobs or anyone that's hiring, please let us know. Thank you in advance.

Friday, April 17, 2009 is a SCAM!!

Remember how I told you that I won a free trip from a radio station when Fred and I were in Miami? Well, it's a scam.

I initally called my contact (Keith O'Neil) at and he told me to look online and call him back and let him know which rental property we were interested in staying in on our vacation.

Fred and I talked about it and we decided that we wanted to bring Knox. We specifically searched properties that allowed pets. We found a nice two bedroom condo that was pet friendly.

I called him last week to schedule our vacation and I had to call and call and call. I spoke with him on Wednesday and he asked me to send an e-mail with all of my information and location request. I did so and earlier today, I called. I still had not received a call back; so, I called again.

This time he answered and told me that this property was not guaranteed for May 16-23 (when we wanted to go). So, I asked, what does that mean? He said they only guaranteed a beachfront condo. And proceeded to tell me that a May 16 stay was too early to book. I thought people booked vacations months in advance. Am I right?

Needless to say, the conversation got heated and he hung up on me. I've called FM100 to notify them and to see if any other winners had encountered the same problems. I haven't heard back, but as far as I am concerned, is a SCAM!!!!

God's Path

One of my friends posted this as her status on Facebook: "The Lord says, 'I will guide you along the best path for your life. I will advise you and watch over you." Proverbs 32:8

I really needed this today. The marine industry is still in bad shape and our jobs are still in jeopardy. We don't know when, but we assume the end is near.

I've been toying again with the idea of becoming a Jazzercise instructor, at least it would give us some sort of income. They have workshops in June and September that I could attend and start teaching immediately after completing the workshop.

I am anxiously awaiting the path God is choosing for me. I hope he shows me something soon, but I just have to remember that it's all in His time.

I'm No Betty Crocker

I made my first attempt at trying to be creative with cookies this morning and I failed. I figured out a way to make them look like bunnies, but when I took the bunnies out of the oven, they were square. I was so sad. I've now learned that I need a recipe. It's the only way I can cook.

I've now decided to stick with my Black Forest Pizza brownies for my "fun" thing to bring to Easter lunch. I guess it was the effort that counts.

We Had Our Cake and Ate It, Too

Before Fred and I left for Miami, we celebrated our anniversary with my parents. We dined on the top of our wedding cake. The traditional first year present is paper; so, my mom took that literally and bought us toilet paper, paper towels, swiffer cloths, and all other paper household products.

ONE Year Anniversary - Bienvenidos a Miami

Courtney asked me what I was most thankful for and here's my answer: My husband of ONE year. He is my soul mate. He makes me smile daily and I could not imagine my life without him. He's my best friend and I love him more and more each day.

One year! Can you believe it? For our one year anniversary, Fred and I took a few days and went to Miami. We stayed on South Beach and enjoyed ourselves. Here are a few pictures of our trip.

The Sun-Bathing Dachshund

All has been calm around the Smithwick household. Knox and I are thrilled to have Fred back at home with us. This weekend, it seemed, that everywhere we went, we bought something for Knox. Knox loves to spend his afternoons laying by our front door in the sunshine. I felt bad for him just lying on the floor; so, we bought him a pillow. Here are a few pictures of Knox sunbathing:
