Dr. Oz: My Personal Doctor

Not really, but I submitted a question for Dr. Oz, who was appearing on our local NBC station to discuss medical issues, and he answered MY question! Click here to see the Q & A with Dr. Oz (fast forward to 4:29). Or watch it here (sorry it's a little jumpy):
I've been dealing with this for several months and I felt like I was a crazy person. Each time I called the doctor's office, I was told by the nurse that it was normal, but it's not normal...Dr. Oz said so. My doctor actually knows nothing about this. It's just the nurse I've been dealing with. I don't know if I should continue seeing my doctor or find a new doctor who will give me answers. I like my doctor, but it concerns me that the nurse is passing me off as a lunatic obsessed with trying to have a baby.

I feel relieved that I am not crazy and this all isn't just in my head. I knew something was wrong. Ladies, we must be advocates for our own bodies!!!

Has anyone dealt with this? If you don't want to comment, send me an email at carolinesmithwick@gmail.com to discuss.

Now, you all know what's really been on my mind... But, the funniest thing about this whole Dr. Oz thing is that my mom is obsessed with Dr. Oz. She watches his show religiously and she tells me EVERYTHING he says. I don't even have to TiVo it. Well, she is going to flip when she finds out he answered MY question. She and my dad are in Spain; so, she has no idea. I can't wait to tell her!!!

Have a great weekend!

It's wonderful that you are taking charge of your health! That's so great that Dr. Oz answered your question. In my opinion (as you already know!), if your doctor's office isn't giving you the care and answers you need, then you have the right (and, really, the responsibility) to insist they give you the time and answers or to find another dr. Good for you! I am so proud!

How cool it got on the air. And yay for blogging about it, support is a great thing.

I would suggest talking to your dr again and if they don't have a plan of action switch dr's. Go someone that is working for you that you feel comfortable with.

Caroline! How awesome he answered your question! I would DEFINITELY recommend going in to see your doctor and if he/she doesn't come up with an action plan that you are comfortable with then I would MOST definitely switch!! There are some pretty great ones out there!! I wouldn't rely on the nurses ANYMORE! YOU know your body and you know something is not right....keep us updated! I can imagine this is discouraging for you, I will be praying for you!

While I was pregnant, I would always call in and talk to the nurses if I had an issue and they would promise me I was fine and everything was normal. I am not bashing nurses here, but make an appointment and go talk to your doc! I finally did and got more answers that way and didn't feel so stupid. The nurses started making me feel as if I was crazy. Especially with your issues and trying to conceive. Good luck with everything and I hope you get some answers soon!!

I say find a new Dr. No matter how much you love yours if this is something you guys REALLY want which I know you do then get a 2nd opinion for sure. So cool that he answered your question!

Hi Caroline! My issues were different but my sister-in-law had something similiar and the doctors were able to help with one round of medication and one in-office procedure.

From our experience if your doctor isn't ready to act...find a new one. Also, they should immediately send you for blood tests, an ultrasound and possibly an x-ray. They shouldn't be "assuming" they know what is wrong because there are so many different things and many of them very simple. They should be looking at you from head to toe. Our first doctor just assumed and probably made it worse. Honestly the nurses at our second doctor's office were amazing and I think that was true reflection on how good our doctor was. E-mail with any specific questions you have. kate_berg05@yahoo.com

Good for you in getting a second opinion! Doctors misdiagnose and ignore problems all the time. Seems like your nurse should know better.

Thats awesome that Dr. OZ answered your question, because now you know your doctors office is, in a way, blowing you off. I love me some Dr. OZ and his advice sounded pretty legitimate, so if I were you I would either ask to discuss this with ur doctor, instead of the nurses, or go some where where they are willing to listen to your concerns honestly!
