Wishful Wednesday: Closet

'I wish' .... I had Nordstrom as my personal closet and could shop from it daily.

I LOVE Nordstrom's! I wish we had one in Memphis. They carry some great styles by great designers.

You can find everything from shoes to dresses to handbags to make-up to things for the home. It's like a "one stop shop". One of my favorite sections online is their "Denim Shop". What woman doesn't want her butt and thighs looking good in a nice pair of jeans?

I'd have an array of items to choose from daily. I could always find something for that perfect occasion. And I could get my make-up done and even grab a bite to eat if Nordstrom's was my closet.

Here are some of the looks I am currently loving:

Top 2 Tuesday: Deserted Island

Top 2 Things (not people) you would take to a deserted island

1. Camera - I don't know where I'd charge it or how I'd upload my pictures if I ran out of space on my memory stick, but I would want a camera to take lots of pictures so that I could remember my time on the island2. Pillow - I'd want somewhere comfy to lay my head down at night. I might even stuff the pillow with a blanket in case I got cold.
To play along in Top 2Tuesday, visit Taylor.

FYI: I went to the doctor yesterday and I am scheduled to have surgery to remove the cyst on July 29. exactly one month from today. I'm so glad to have an action plan in place, but I wish it was sooner. Thank you for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.

Bedroom Eyes

I think I've seen every bed in Memphis. Ok, not really, but at least in all of the furniture stores in Memphis. Fred and I spent the majority of our weekend going from furniture store to furniture store in search of the best king sized bed. We had specifications for this bed:
  • Must be a KING
  • It had to be espresso colored to match our other bedroom furniture
  • Knox has to be able to jump on it from the stool at the foot of the bed (yes, we base a bed's qualifications by whether or not our dog can get on the bed easily)
  • It has to have clean lines

Well, as luck would have it, we found a winner (don't look at the bedding).

Do you like? We found it at I.O. Metro and we found out that if we become a "Fan" of I.O. Metro on Facebook, we receive an additional 25% off of the price. Yay! But the offer ends Wednesday; so, we have to move quick! We're ordering the mattress today as well. So, hopefully, by mid-July, we'll be sleeping on a King.

We also found some great bedding (not what's pictured above) at I.O. Metro that already match our drapes. I'm in love already. I also found some great barstools there too. I can tell that this place is going to be bad for me.

Here's a picture of our current bedroom:

I think a King will look great with all of the space that we already have.

I did manage to sleep off my cold this weekend. Thank goodness. But, I am heading to the doctor today to find out more about what's going on inside my body. Hopefully, I can get more answers and a plan of action.

I hope you all had a great and relaxing weekend. I am super excited because I have Friday and Monday off. Yay!!!

sTori Telling

Last week, I decided I needed to jump start my summer reading since I'd been stuck reading "The Last Song" since April. I am going to try to finish it again (well, for maybe the 4th time). As you read here, I ordered ALL 3 of Tori Spelling's books. They arrived Monday and I already finished "sTori Telling". I loved it. It was a nice look into Tori's not-so-glamorous life. I totally think Tori and I could be friends. She's witty and has a charm about her. I can't believe how candid she was about everything. I didn't want to put it down, but since my reading/alone time is so limited, I had to make do. It was definitely a great summer read! I'm only on the second chapter of"Mommywood" and I love it!

If you haven't already, put "sTori Telling" on your list! Or you can always borrow my copy.

And it's official, I have my annual summer cold. :( I feel so blah. Maybe this is my excuse to take some time and relax. Happy Friday!

In It to Win It

To participate in Thoughtless Thursday, visit Life in the Fulmer Lane.

As several of you know, I go to Jazzercise. I love it! In order to get people to attend in the summer, Jazzercise organizes an attendance game. This summer's attendance game was for you and a partner to attend 60 classes between June 1 and July 31 and you receive a pair of flip flops and a beach bag. Well, on Tuesday, my mom and I were the second team to reach 60 classes at our Jazzercise location (we would have been first, but my mom and dad went to Europe for a week; so, I had to do it on my own). We worked our butts off.
Now, I can go back to working out Monday through Thursday. I really hated getting up early on Saturdays to go to Jazzercise. I love my sleep too much.

After we won our flip flops, I went with my mom to her yoga class. I hadn't been to a yoga class since college. I haven't felt that limber in ages. I really enjoyed the change of pace, but not enough to take me away from Jazzercise. I will admit that I am sore in places I never thought possible.

I've actually thought about becoming a Jazzercise teacher for a while now, but right now is not the best time to invest the money and time. Maybe one day. I'm an example of Jazzercise helping take the weight off and keeping it off.

So, what do you do to keep in shape?

Wishful Wednesday: Lost

I wish...I hadn't lost...wait, I wish Fred hadn't lost his first wedding ring.

Fred and I had to go out to Napa, California for work and we had just been married for 2 months. And one day while we were in a meeting, Fred looked down and his wedding ring was gone. I had an eye infection in both eyes; so, I wasn't feeling great and I wasn't much help looking for the ring. We tore up the building and our hotel room and NOTHING.

When we got home and we were throwing our clothes in the washer, we heard something metal hit the tile floor and roll. We got so excited and we tore up the washroom and NOTHING.

I think Fred was just so glad that I was with him instead of having to come home and explain losing his wedding ring on a business trip.

After we got home, we bought him a new wedding band and he's had it ever since (knock on wood).

{The last picture we have of Fred with his original ring at Alcatraz}

So, what do you wish you wouldn't have lost? Visit The Seattle Smith's and tell us.

Top Two Tuesday: Reality TV Shows

Top 2 Reality TV Shows

I am so excited about this topic! Since I can't sing and I refuse to be out in the wilderness for 40 days, I decided on these two shows...

1. The Amazing Race - I would love to race around the world! It would open my eyes to so many new things and so many different cultures. I think Fred and I would make a great team!
2. Big Brother - I would love to be on this show. I think I'd be good at coming up with plans and convincing people to get rid of others. It sounds so bad. Could you see me as HOH? I am so excited for the new season to start on Thursday, July 8 at 8pm EST.

To participate in Two for Tuesday, visit Taylor at The Undomestic Momma. Which shows would you want to be seen on?

Everyday Is a Winding Road

On Friday, my wonderful husband surprised me with tickets to see this beautiful, talented lady in August. (I guess he does read the blog) I am so excited. I've seen her twice in concert and she's amazing. {Sheryl Crow}

Friday Night - we had Willie's 10th birthday party

Me and the birthday boy

Knox was ready for some hot dogs, cake and ice cream

Happy Birthday, Willie!

Happy 10th Birthday to my brother, Prince William "Willie" Nelson Brown!
He'll be having a "paw-ty" tonight (Aly, I am stealing this saying from you). Knox is very excited because he worships and adores his Uncle Willie. We hope Willie likes his presents!

All I Wanna Do

It's too hot to do anything else! Don't get me wrong, I love the warm weather, but running through a sprinkler sounds delightful right about now!

To participate in Thoughtless Thursday, visit Life in the Fulmer Lane.
And now, thanks to the title of my post, Sheryl Crow's "All I Want to Do" is stuck in my head. Love her. She's coming to Memphis in August and I'm dying to go! Hint, hint...wink, wink!

Book 'Em

I have been in dire need of some good summer reading material. I started reading "The Last Song" in April and I haven't finished it yet (it's the whole Miley as Ronnie thing).

Yesterday I was reading Neely's blog and she said that one of her guilty pleasures was Tori Spelling and I remembered that I'd been wanting to read Tori's books (I did have a Tori & Dean marathon this weekend). So, I went to Amazon and ordered ALL three of her books (all for under $35).

I can always justify buying books and workout clothes. Two of the best things to keep you healthy if you use them. Have any of you read these? Will I enjoy?

In other news, I managed to get an appointment with a new doctor on Monday about my "issues". She ran tests and did an ultrasound. And yep, I was right...I have a cyst and possibly polyps. I go back in a few weeks for more testing. I am so thankful to have someone who believed me enough to try and help me. I feel like I am finally getting some answers. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. Please keep them coming.

Remember, ladies, if you think something is wrong, it probably is. We must be our own advocates!

Top 2 Tuesday: Guilty Pleasures

Top 2 Guilty Pleasures

1. Britney Spears - Yes, I love Britney! In college, I wanted to be Britney. I wanted to dress like her and dance like her. I've loved her since "Baby One More Time"! I love her songs and I think she's a great performer. (My favorite is "I'm a Slave 4 U") The girl has hit several rough spots, but I still love her!

2. The Young and the Restless - I've been watching this soap opera since I was born (FYI: Victoria was born a few months after me). My mom always watched it when I was growing up and I DVR the show EVERY SINGLE DAY!!

So, what are your guilty pleasures? Visit Taylor and tell us.

Southern Living

Thank you, all, for your love, support and encouraging words on Friday. I have an appointment on the 24th to meet with a new doctor. I am very anxious. Your thoughts, prayers and words mean so much to me.

I hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend got started off by Fred running in a 5K. He's really been training hard for this and Knox and I came out to surprise him at the finish line.

Checking his time

He did great!

Knox and Daddy

I don't know about where you live, but it was so freaking HOT this weekend. Don't get me wrong, I love warm weather, but it's unseasonably warm for mid-June. This is August weather. It's almost too hot to wear clothes. :)

I also have to take a minute to brag because we've cooked and eaten dinner at home 7 out of the 9 past days. If you know me, you know this is a record. And tonight is fajita night! We're just trying to be a little bit more health conscious and spend more time at home rather than in restaurants.

Here are some of the delicious recipes we've tried:
Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Quesadilla Chicken with Taco Seasoned Red Potatoes
Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon and Sugar Tortilla Chips
Rosemary Ranch Chicken Marinade
Homemade Lasagna
Spicy Tilapia with Pineapple-Pepper Relish

If you think we should try something, send me your recipe and we'll try it and blog about it.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Dr. Oz: My Personal Doctor

Not really, but I submitted a question for Dr. Oz, who was appearing on our local NBC station to discuss medical issues, and he answered MY question! Click here to see the Q & A with Dr. Oz (fast forward to 4:29). Or watch it here (sorry it's a little jumpy):
I've been dealing with this for several months and I felt like I was a crazy person. Each time I called the doctor's office, I was told by the nurse that it was normal, but it's not normal...Dr. Oz said so. My doctor actually knows nothing about this. It's just the nurse I've been dealing with. I don't know if I should continue seeing my doctor or find a new doctor who will give me answers. I like my doctor, but it concerns me that the nurse is passing me off as a lunatic obsessed with trying to have a baby.

I feel relieved that I am not crazy and this all isn't just in my head. I knew something was wrong. Ladies, we must be advocates for our own bodies!!!

Has anyone dealt with this? If you don't want to comment, send me an email at carolinesmithwick@gmail.com to discuss.

Now, you all know what's really been on my mind... But, the funniest thing about this whole Dr. Oz thing is that my mom is obsessed with Dr. Oz. She watches his show religiously and she tells me EVERYTHING he says. I don't even have to TiVo it. Well, she is going to flip when she finds out he answered MY question. She and my dad are in Spain; so, she has no idea. I can't wait to tell her!!!

Have a great weekend!

Who's That Girl?

Yep, that's me with the blonde, curly hair and the HUGE reindeer sweatshirt with the mom jeans. I was so cool!! Keep in mind my hair is straight as a stick; so, I must have slept that night in sponge rollers. Remember those? WTH is up with my bangs? Ugh!!!

This picture was either taken in second or third grade. It was taken at a birthday party for my friend, Crystal (pictured on the right). Did anyone have a Showbiz rather than Chuck E. Cheese? That's where this picture was taken.

After all of these years, we're still friends (even if she's posting horrible pictures of me on Facebook). But I will point out that she is wearing a fanny pack. :)

Oh, little girls, you have soooo much to learn!

To participate in Thoughtless Thursday, visit Katie here.

Now, go ahead and continue making fun of me...
