Hi, everyone! Thank you for all of your sweet words, thoughts and prayers! I wanted to give you all an update as to what has happened:

I checked in to the hospital yesterday morning at 5:30am. When I was getting prepped for surgery, it took them three times to try to get my iv in my arm. It was awful. My surgery got underway at 7:30am and I was out of the OR by 8:30am. The cyst/tumor was a dermoid (contained human fibroids) and it was benign. It was the size of a large egg. They did not have to remove my ovary, which is wonderful!

I spent most of the day yesterday pushing my pain med button and trying to relax. Let me just tell you, you don't get much sleep in a hospital.Fred and my parents were sweet enough to stay with me all day. They brought me two McAlister's unsweet teas and the most delicious Frosty ever. Fred ended up staying the night with me. He's a great nurse!

This morning, they came and removed my catheter and made me walk. It was painful.
They brought me some solid food, but nothing tastes good. After I managed to eat a little, they told me that if I could hold down my pain meds for an hour that I could go home. That hour mark is fast approaching and I am ready to go home!

I finally found out my recovery time which will be four weeks. I can drive in about a week to two weeks. The next month should be hard, but I'll get through it. Thank you again for everything! Y'all are amazing. I feel so blessed!

Have a great weekend and hopefully I'll be back to the blogging world on Monday!

Date Night

Scheduled Post

Since my surgery is today, I asked Fred to plan a date for us on Wednesday night, which meant he was in charge of picking where we ate dinner.

He picked Sharky's Gulf Grill in Memphis. Neither of us had been there and we hadn't heard much about the restaurant. Let me just tell you, the sushi was amazing!!! Possibly the best sushi I have ever had. We also got the Grilled Gulf Platter and split it. It was enough food to feed an army, but it was so good that we didn't want to stop. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Memphis area. We had great service and like I said, the food was wonderful! Fred did a great job!

After dinner, Fred took me to get my chocolate ice cream with gummi bears at Cold Stone Creamery. Then headed home to watch "Big Brother" and snuggle with Knox. Love it!

I had an amazing time with my wonderful husband and sometimes I don't know if he knows how much I love him and how much I truly appreciate him. I love you, Fred! And one day, he'll make an amazing father.

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. I'm hoping that by the time you read this post, I am in the recovery room and well on my way to a speedy recovery! I've asked Fred to update everyone via Twitter and Facebook. You can follow me @csmithwick or him @utennessee6. Who knows, he might even blog! :) Much love!!! And I promise to return SOON!

It's A...

It's a boy? It's a girl? Those are the two questions we were asking last night before my cousin's baby gender revealment party. I've never been to one of these types of parties, but it was a lot of fun and I couldn't wait for them to cut into the cake. Neither Jennifer or Chris knew what the baby was. So, it was just as exciting to see the looks on their faces when they made the first cut! Here are some pictures from the party:

The cake

The excited parents-to-be

The first cut

And it's a BOY!!!

Everyone's guess
The mommy-to-be and me
Congratulations, Jennifer and Chris! We can wait to meet Baby Nathan!!!

In other news, I am less than 24 hours away from my surgery. I am anxious, nervous and ready to get it over with. So, I apologize, in advance, if I have to take a break from blogging for the next few days. Thanks so much for all of your continued thoughts and prayers.

The Lucky One

I did it! Six books in six weeks. Fred and I have been trading in some television and movie watching time to read at night. How old are we?

So, I finished Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One. It was a good read. I wasn't really sure where it was going to go in the beginning or if I'd even like the book. After all the pieces started coming together, it kept my attention and I really didn't want to put it down at times. But,the ending keeps you on the edge of your seat! It was an overall great read! I'd actually like to see this book be made into a movie. Nicholas Sparks, are you listening to me?

Enough with the romance for now, I'm going back to reading something funny next: I actually read about 20 pages of it last night before bed. Chelsea Handler cracks me up!!!

Top 2 Tuesday: Colognes/Perfumes/Scents

Top 2 Colognes/Perfumes/Scents

1. STELLA by Stella McCartney - I first found this perfume when I was in London. I loved the way it smelled. I bought some and it's really become my favorite of all time. I always get compliments on it when I wear it.

2. CORE by GAP -

I smelled this in the store the other night and it smelled wonderful. It was so masculine, but not overpowering. I loved it. I might have to get some for Fred. :)

What are your favorite scents? Visit Taylor's blog and tell us!

Majestic Cats and Bloody Vamps

Friday night started out great! My friend, Kendra, and I had made plans to go to dinner at The Majestic Grille and to go see Cats at The Orpheum. Our dinner reservations were at 6pm. At 6:20pm, after we'd been sat, drinks and salads served, the power at the restaurant goes out! Our meal actually comes out and we get free dessert, but there's still no power. We walk to The Orpheum and again, no power. We wait for about 5 minutes and they come out and tell us that the show has been cancelled for the night. We were told to come back Saturday and get tickets for another showing. We had a great time despite the black out of Downtown Memphis.
Saturday was spent running errands and trying to get tickets for another performance of Cats. We ended up getting some new slip covers for pillows to our new bed. Do you like???It's slowly, but surely coming together.

So, Kendra and I went to see Cats on Sunday afternoon! Finally! We both are glad we saw the show, but we're not completely sure we understood it. It was not what I expected, but I enjoyed it. The costumes were amazing and Rum Tum Tugger is my favorite! He made the show!

Sunday night, we had a couple of our friends over to watch "Big Brother" and "True Blood". Fred made his delicious fajitas:

Sookie Stackhouse Succulent Cupcakes (aka Red Velvet cupcakes):
And as promised, the secret ingredient to Fred's fajitas....
You can purchase this rub at any Williams-Sonoma store or here. It'll run you about $10 a can, but you get two good portions of fajitas (including veggies) out of the whole can.

Place cut up chicken and/or steak in a large plastic bag
Pour 1 tbsp. of your favorite olive oil in the bag
Sprinkle 1/4 of the bag of chili-lime rub in the bag
shake well

*You can also use the same technique for your favorite grilled veggies for your fajitas.

Overall, we had a GREAT weekend! I hope you did too!

The Weekend Never Looked So Good

Hello, Friday! I greet you with open arms and a HUGE smile...

This has been an exciting and busy week around the Smithwick house!

I received all of my information about Junior League. Our first "meeting" is a retreat on August 14. Although I will not be able to participate in some of the activities, I am excited to meet some of the other provisional members. My provisional advisor is Lauren. I'm so excited because I'll at least I know someone!!!I've been spending the majority of this week getting myself and the house ready for my surgery. I've stocked up on Knox's food and dog treats. And I've packed a little overnight bag for the hospital. (I'm praying that it's just for one night) And I've tried to clean up all of my to-do lists, at least for now. I'm trying to be prepared and make it easier on Fred. All of our clothes will be washed, folded and put away and all of the dishes will be washed by Wednesday.

It's also going to be a busy weekend. Tonight, my friend Kendra and I are going to see Cats. I'm not sure if I'm excited, dreading it or what, but it'll be nice to have a girl's night. Have you seen Cats? What can I expect?
And on Sunday, Fred and I are having some friends over for a "True Blood" watch party. We love the show and so do some of our friends; so, why not use it as an excuse to get together. Fred will be making his famous fajitas. I'll divulge the secret ingredient on Monday! Hopefully with everything going on this weekend, I'll get to enjoy myself and stop worrying about my surgery on Thursday. I want to warn you that I may not be blogging for a few days, but I will return. Have a great weekend, y'all!!!

The Last Song

Ok, now it's 5 books in 5 weeks. I am amazed at myself. :)

I FINALLY finished The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. It took me a while to get over Miley Cyrus being the main character, but once I did, I couldn't put the book down! Seriously, y'all, it was that good. It took everything in me to pick up the book and start reading it again, but I am so glad I did.

This was a great read with great messages in the story. But, be sure to have a box of Kleenex handy!

I know the movie isn't as great as the book, but I am interested in seeing how it all plays out. Have you seen the movie? Is it different? If so, was it better? Worse? Now that I've finished the book, I can totally see Miley as Ronnie. Anyone else?

Up next...
Can you tell I am a BIG Nicholas Sparks fan? Thank you for all of your suggestions. I am still open to more. Here are some other books I'm planning on reading...

Summer at Tiffany: A Memoir by Marjorie Hart
Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler

Can I be eight for eight? We shall see!

Christmas in July

While I was eating breakfast yesterday morning, I noticed Knox sitting 1/2 in his bed and 1/2 out of his bed. So strange.

When I got home, I noticed how cute he looked and thought I needed to take a picture of him.

Then our neighbors' son wanted to give Knox a little treat. (Trevor and Knox have the same birthday and Trevor says they are having a party together this year)

Trevor drew this cute picture of Knox and his family gave us this cute dachshund magnet. I found it only fitting to hang Trevor's picture from the magnet.

After I hung the picture, this little guy came up to sit in Mommy's lap or maybe chew the camera cord.

Then he started barking for more of Trevor's doggie treats.

And then a lady in my mom's yoga class gave Knox a travel bag. He wasn't so sure about it. He did like it when I put him in it and carried him around.

He started sniffing it and pulling the padding out...

then he started running off with the padding...

Knox had a great day and loved getting all of his new treats and goodies! We are so blessed to have wonderful friends and family who are kind enough to even think about our fur baby.

I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!

Top 2 Tuesday: What I Want

Top 2 things you want to purchase!

1. A Vacation -
I know, I know. It seems like I go out of town all of the time. And I do, but not just with Fred. We're with our friends and our family. I'd like to plan a quick getaway for the two of us this fall. But, since my surgery, our dryer, and our new bed are going to suck up a lot of money, we're just going to have to wait.

2. Paint for our house -I feel like I am still decorating our house 2 1/2 years after moving in. I want it to be perfect and I know it takes a LONG time, but I am ready to slap some paint on the walls and finish our guest bedrooms, guest bathroom, and our master bedroom. I am dying to purchase this orange shower curtain and paint the walls chocolate brown:

{Ruffled Shower Curtain found at India Rose}
