Let's Try This Again

Top 2 Favorite US Cities

1. Miami Beach:
I've been going to Miami since I was four years old. I love the warm weather, the beaches and the scenery! And they have some of the best food! Fred and I even spent our 1st anniversary in Miami!

2. New York City:

New York is so awesome! There is so much history there and it's such an amazing place that is always thriving. There are so many sights to see, things to do and places to eat! That's why we chose NYC as our 2nd anniversary destination!

Which 2 U.S. cities do you love? Visit Taylor and tell us!

Top 2 Tuesday: Favorite Cities

**Obviously, I don't pay attention...I picked cities in another coutry! Oops!!!

Top 2 Favorite Cities

1. Rome, Italy:
Rome is my favorite place in the WORLD. It is so rich with culture and history. The sights are breathtaking! There are so many sights to see, but each of them is worth it! I've been to Rome 6 times and each time I learn a little something new. The food is absolutely amazing too!

2. Venice, Italy:
To me, Venice is more romantic than Paris, France. At night, the city just lights up and creates the perfect setting for an evening for lovers. Hello, gondola ride?! I've only been with friends and my parents, but I'd love to take Fred. The canals are just so beautiful. You can also find a lot of Venetian glass And getting lost is just part of the fun.

So, what are your Top 2 Favorite Cities. Visit Taylor's blog and tell us!

Summer Concert Series

Friday afternoon, Fred won us tickets to go see Maroon 5 and Kris Allen on a local radio station. I was so excited and so surprised! I'd been wanting to go, but we just hadn't bought tickets.

The show was GREAT and we had a blast! Here are some pics: Kris Allen - American Idol Winner
He did a great job on his songs and he even sang Kanye West's "Heartless". Awesome!
Adam Lavigne of Maroon 5
I just love his voice!!
Maroon 5
After the show, we were hungry; so, we headed to Earnestine & Hazel's for their world famous soul burger! If you're ever in Memphis, you MUST go to Earnestine & Hazel's (but, only go at midnight or later). I can't even describe how delicious this burger is.
Fred really enjoyed his 1st soul burger!

And tonight we're going to see these guys:
Can you tell we love going to concerts? I am so excited!! "Hey, Soul Sister" keeps playing in my head. :) A special thanks to Kendall for the tickets!!

Also this weekend, we attended a cookout and we got to meet our friends' new baby, Lillian Elizabeth. She's so beautiful!!!

I hope you all had a great weekend too! Happy Monday!

We couldn't wait to get married!

So, What's It Gonna Be?

Some of the ladies at work are always asking me when Fred and I are going to have children. Ummm...hello...I just had a tumor removed from my body 4 weeks ago. But, my surgery response never seems to stop them from asking.

So, for some reason, they were talking about child birth and gender yesterday. When asked if I wanted a boy or a girl, I responded, "I don't really care." This sparked an idea among the group. They decided I should have a baby gender prediction test.

The baby gender prediction method of choice was the pencil on a string trick. Heard of it? You stick a straight pin into the eraser of a regular pencil, then tie a string onto the pin. You then dangle the pencil above your inner wrist as your arm lies motionless on a flat surface. Concentrate on the pencil while trying to keep the string still, but the pencil should start moving on it's own! If the pencil moves in a pattern across your wrist side to side, the baby will be a girl. If the pencil moves up and down your wrist, the baby will be a boy. The pencil will stop moving between each kid, then starts up again. When the baby gender prediction is completed, the pencil will stop moving. Sounds a bit crazy, huh? I've heard many variations of this baby gender prediction method (using a spoon or a wedding ring instead of a pencil, dangling above the belly button rather than the wrist, having a friend dangle the pencil rather than yourself, etc.), but it's all in good fun.

And my result...

TWIN BOYS!

Yes, the pin went crazy then moved up and down my arm twice. All of the ladies had a field day just laughing about my future twin sons. They claimed they've never predicted wrong.

Have you ever played a game like this? Was it true?

I am still laughing and secretly wondering if it's really true. :) Today, I am heading in for my post-op check-up. I am hoping everything is good and that I can resume normal activities soon.

Everyday Is a Winding Road

Friday: Fred and I went to see Colbie Caillat and Sheryl Crow in concert.
{Colbie Caillat}
{Sheryl Crow}
They put on an awesome show and we had a great time. Our seats were directly center stage. It was amazing!

Saturday:
Knox is now registered for the 2010 Running of the Weenies. I can't wait to see him race. We've got a little less than a month to start training, but no matter what, we'll have a great time!

On Saturday afternoon, I worked my shift at the Junior League of Memphis' Repeat Boutique. I assisted in showing customers jewelry and with anything else they might want to know or see. I am trying to get all of my requirements out of the way early in the year.
After my shift, a few of our friends came over for dinner. We had a great time catching up and hanging out. Our friends, Kat and Kyle, are awaiting the arrival of their first child any day now. :) After they left, we received a call from Kat saying our friend Rob had been in a car accident. It happened right near our house. A teenager came around a corner at a high speed, lost control, overcorrected and slammed right into Rob's driver's side. He walked away with only scratches. Here's a picture of his car: There were angels all around him. The girl wasn't hurt either. We were so thankful.

And after such a busy and eventful weekend, we decided to take Sunday and relax.

I am so excited about the Memphis Blog Girls Meet-Up tonight! I am so excited and will post about our fun dinner!

Pep Squad

With the EXTREME heat, it's hard to think college football is just around the corner, but I've already been scoping out this year's University of South Florida collegiate gear by Victoria's Secret:

I'm just not sure about the white sweatsuit, but I love the green tee. My luck I'd spill something all over myself and ruin the sweats. Last year, Fred surprised me with some VS USF sweats and a shirt. I seriously wore them all winter. That's how comfortable they are. Have you tried their sweats?

Tonight, we're going to see Sheryl Crow and Colbie Callait. I am so excited! Fred surprised me with tickets a couple of months back. He's the best!

I'll also be working the Junior League of Memphis' thrift shop on Saturday. I'm trying to get all of my obligations out of the way.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Redbox It

Yesterday was my first time trying Redbox. We have Netflix, but I really wanted to see this movie last night rather than waiting the "Short Wait" time Netflix said it would be. So, I thought I'd give Redbox a shot. Have you tried it? My first impression...AWESOME! Before you go to your Redbox and find that the movie you wanted was sold out, you can reserve a movie online and go pick it up at a designated location. The movie was in great condition. And it's only $1 per night. I returned my movie this morning and it was super easy. If you haven't tried it, try it this weekend. It's really that easy. Thank you, Julie, for telling me about it!

So, what was the movie I was dying to see...The Last Song. As you know, I read the book and really enjoyed it. I was interested to see how the movie would play out against the book. Remember the book and movie are NEVER the same! After watching the movie, I give it two thumbs up! They left out some parts, but the main storyline was still in tact. I cried continuously during the last hour of the movie (maybe it was because I'd read the book and knew what to expect or because I am hormonal still), but it was a great movie.

Fred asked why I read Nicholas Sparks' books and watch the movies because I always cry. I answered, "Because they are so good."

I actually thought Miley did a great job and her character was cast perfectly. I must admit I was skeptical. I really enjoyed Greg Kinear in a more serious role. I honestly don't think I've seen a good love story movie like this one in a long time.

Rent it this weekend!! And if you haven't tried Redbox, try it too!

The September Issue

Last night I watched "The September Issue". I only knew it was about Vogue and Anna Wintour, but I didn't know what to expect. I thought it was a history of Vogue with actors, but it's actually a behind the scenes documentary about the magazine. The only knowledge of the fashion magazine world I had before this film was "Ugly Betty".

I learned so much about the fashion industry, magazine publishing, Anna Wintour and Vogue. I never knew the September issue of Vogue was the fashion guideline for the year. September marks a time for change. Thank goodness I started cleaning out my closet this past weekend.

Anna Wintour is Vogue. But, you also learn a little bit about others who work there. It's all very interesting. I am now quite envious of these people who work at Vogue. What a glamorous job? They impact what we choose to put on our bodies. That's powerful!

Anna's daughter's perspective of the fashion industry is quite intriguing.

If you like fashion and you're interested in the behind the scenes of a fashion magazine, I would recommend watching this movie. Husbands and boyfriends probably won't like it, but get your girlfriends together and enjoy!

Top 2 Tuesday: Characters

Top 2 Characters You Would Want To Play on a TV Show or Movie

1. Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen on "Gossip Girl"
She is gorgeous, has the best clothes and I love her hair! Plus she gets to kiss some total hotties! Unfortunately, I heard that she's asked the writers to kill her off this season. "Gossip Girl" won't be the same without her. I love Serena!

2. Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in Legally BlondeReese was so cute and happy in Legally Blonde I and II. I loved her clothes (especially all of the pink). It was a great girly movie and is so me!

I think I have a blonde, girly theme going on. Which characters would you want to be? Visit The Undomestic Momma and tell us.

Monday Mania

Hello, ladies. I hope your Monday is treating you well. I am just now getting a chance to post.

I'm semi-back to work today! I had a great weekend. On Friday, we had a low key date night at Red Robin. (Be sure to sign up for their birthday club because you get a free burger on your birthday and they sent Fred a $3 off coupon just for signing up!)

On Saturday, I had my Junior League Provisional retreat. It was at this place called Bridges in Memphis. It's a place where groups go and do team building exercises. I only made it through the morning half, but I would have loved to have been able to participate in the ropes course in the afternoon. I met so many nice women and I am really excited about my Provisional year!

On Sunday, we had to take my parents to the airport bright and early; so, we decided to go to Brother's Juniper for breakfast. They seriously have the best cheese grits ever!!! If you live in Memphis, go there! I got the bright idea to start cleaning out my closet yesterday afternoon. I have so many clothes that I need to purge. I am thinking about participating in this neighborhood garage sale in September. Do you think I should? After I destroyed one side of my closet, we went to our friend's house for dinner, True Blood and Big Brother.

All in all, it was a great weekend.

And if you live in the Memphis area, DON'T forget our Memphis Blog Girls Meet Up is ONE week away! Email me at carolinesmithwick@gmail.com if you'd like more information. I am so excited about the group of ladies who have RSVP'd. Don't miss out!!!

Shop-a-Holic

Happy Friday, everyone!! Since my surgery, my doctor suggested that I walk to get some of the bloating down. Well, it's about 100+ degrees in Memphis right now; so, my mom and I have been going to the mall and walking around. The walking usually leads to shopping and I have two purchases that I MUST tell you all about....

1. The NEW Incredible Bra by Victoria's Secret - It really feels like you're not wearing anything. How great is that?! You MUST get one! I got this silver/gray one and it's a great neutral color to wear under everything. I want one in every color!!!

2. Sperry's Top-Siders - I took your advice and I bought me some! I love them and they are super cute! Thanks for all of the great reviews! I hope you all have a great weekend!! XOXO

Nautical Theme

Boat Show 2010

As you know, Fred and I work in the marine industry. This is one of our busiest times of the year because our customers are changing to the 2011 models and they are hosting boat shows around the country. Sometimes we get to go to these shows and sometimes we don't. Unfortunately, we don't get to go this year, but they are always fun! So, that's what inspired this Polyvore.

I was watching an episode of "Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami" and Kris Jenner was wearing a nautical dress like the one pictured above. I loved it, especially with gold accessories. I also love that Sperrys (aka boat shoes) are in style. I am dying for a pair.

Are you a fan of the nautical fashion trend?

Top 2 Tuesday: Tips

Top 2 Tips
(money saving tips, beauty tips, DIY tips, cooking tips, cleaning tips, blogging tips, shopping tips, etc.)

1. Travel Tip - Fred and I love to travel. We are frequent flyers of Delta Airlines, but we recently found about about kayak.com. It's a great way to compare airlines, hotels and cars. When we booked our anniversary trip, on Delta, our tickets were $800, but the same tickets on Kayak were $500. So, check it out....www.kayak.com!

2. Beauty Tip - Fred's niece is now in fourth grade and she's recently become interested in make-up. I was talking to her on Sunday and it made me remember something my mom taught me that sometimes less is more. I was trying to explain to her how you don't always have to have the rosiest cheeks or the darkest eyeliner. Find what works for you and your skin tone and go with it.

If you live in the Memphis area, don't forget to email me at carolinesmithwick@gmail.com if you're interested in the Memphis Blog Girls Meet Up.

And if you live in Memphis and you're looking for a new home, my friend, Lauren, and her hubby and daughter are selling their house. It's gorgeous. Click here for more info! And pass it along!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday!!!

Baby Got Back

Happy Monday, y'all! I hope all of you had a great weekend! I think I am finally back. I've returned to work today for a 1/2 day. It kinda feels like the first day of school.

I thought no better way to come back to the blogging world than showing off pictures of Knox:
Showing off his new collar (it has pirates on it)

Doing tricks

Working at the computer (on Daddy's chest)

Isn't he cute?! He seriously cracks me up!

Thank you again for all of your kind words, thoughts and prayers over the past few weeks. I am feeling better and hopefully, it's only uphill from here.

In other news, if you live in the Memphis area, Sarah from Moske Monkey Business and I are hosting a Memphis Bloggers Meet-Up. Email me at carolinesmithwick@gmail.com for more details. We hope you can join us!

Couch Potato

Yep, that's me, the couch potato! Since trying to stay out of the 120 degree weather and recovering from surgery, I've become highly addicted to daytime television!!!!

We all know that I LOVE "The Young & the Restless", but I've become addicted to TLC and Bravo! It's just so much fun to watch shows about food, weddings, babies and "real" life! Thank goodness for Comcast's OnDemand because I am now caught up on The Real Housewives of NJ! I also find Kathie Lee and Hoda very entertaining. It's like I have a tv watching schedule. What am I going to do when I go back to work? :)

In between my television shows, I've managed to watch two movies:
Both very cute and very girly! If you're stuck inside, I suggest you rent these. There's plenty of eye candy to capture your attention.

My marathon reading has come to a hault because of the garbage I've been watching. I'm halfway through Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. Maybe I'll try to finish this weekend unless there is some marathon on Bravo or TLC! Ha!

Have a great weekend, y'all!!!

Top 2 Tuesday: Simple Pleasures

Top 2 Simple Pleasures

1. Evenings spent with Fred and Knox snuggling on the couch - it's seriously the best date night ever.
2. Dessert - I love dessert. It might just be the best part to any meal. Since I've been relaxing on the couch, I've spent hours watching shows like "Fabulous Cakes" and "DC Cupcakes". I feel my rear end getting bigger and bigger just watching them.
To participate in Top 2 Tuesday, visit The Undomestic Momma.

Thank you all for your sweet messages. I am feeling a little better, but no one told me how much surgery takes a toll on your body and your energy. I'm spending a lot of time relaxing and being pampered by my family. My belly is swollen and I look about 4 months pregnant. I wish I was. I keep asking Fred if he thinks it's a boy or a girl. I'm ready to get back to normal, but in the meantime, I'll keep relaxing and taking it easy. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. I hope to get around to catching up on your blogs soon! Let me know if I've missed anything!
