I'm No Pioneer Woman

Since I've been under the weather, I really haven't felt like cooking. Poor Fred has been getting us take-out or ordering in for us. But, last night I was feeling better and decided to surprise Fred with a home cooked meal.

My dinner menu of choice: Pioneer Woman's Cajun Chicken Pasta.

I had a recipe, bought the ingredients and started cooking. When Fred got home, he even commented on how good everything looked and smelled. Everything was going well until it was time to eat this...
It looks yummy, right?

The problem: it didn't have flavor. We were so disappointed.

So, what do you do next? We decide to head to Baskin Robbins for a nutritious, delicious dinner. Hey, at least it had flavor.
Has this ever happen to you? I felt like a bad wife, but I blame the recipe, not the cook.

Try Emeril's Bayou Chicken Pasta recipe. :) It should be the first link on a google search for the recipe. It is amazing! It has way more flavor than PW's. It's one of our fav dishes!!

I made that same recipe about a year ago, and we thought the same thing! It was quite bland. Glad it's the recipe and not just me! :)

First, let me say how much I adore PW, and I would never say anything to the contrary. Except maybe this one thing. I have her cookbook. I've made several recipes and have thought the exact same thing. They all lacked in flavor. Of course, I'm a Louisiana girl, so I'm used to spicy, flavorful foods. Maybe it's me?

I did make her burgundy mushrooms and they were divine. Otherwise, I fear my husband would ban PW recipes from our kitchen.

To be honest...it really does look delicious!! And usually the Pioneer Woman does no wrong. But hey, ice cream always cures it:)

I usually add cayenne pepper to most everything to add some flavor. Maybe next time, hit it hard with some spice?

I've had the exact same problem with her Pasta alla Vodka! It definitely needed something too.

Haha! I have totally had one of those meals that ends in going out for ice cream. You win some, you lose some.

We all have good days and bad days in the kitchen. Hopefully the hubbies get that.

Oh man, sorry the recipe was a dud. You'll have to doctor it up if you make it again. Sounds like you made up for it with the ice cream though. ;)

I made her sour cream noodle bake two times and it was just nasty. My bro and sis went to HS w/ her and I know her brother. I like her, but blug!
