Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Happy Tuesday (I keep thinking it's Monday)! I hope all of you had a great Memorial Day weekend!

We kicked off our weekend on Friday night with Zoo Brew at the Memphis Zoo. I surprised Fred with the whole idea. At first, he was reluctant since it had been a long, hard week at work, but once we were there, we had a blast!
There were 37 different stations with 4+ beers each and you got to sample as many as you like.

We even ran into Sarah and her hubby, Joe

On Saturday, we spent much of the day running errands and going to my dad's side of the family's reunion. Family reunions are always pretty interesting, but we had fun.

On Sunday, we spent some time by my parents' pool and met our friends, Ben and Emily, for dinner at The Flying Fish and a Memphis Redbirds game.

Monday, we spent some time getting our yard and house back in order and we spent time with both of our families.

So, what did you guys do? I need another weekend before heading back to work. At least it's a 4 day week, right?!

Oh, Well

Happy Friday, everyone! I don't know about y'all, but I am so excited about a three day weekend. We don't get a paid holiday off from New Years to Memorial Day; so, this is a welcomed weekend.

We don't have any plans, which is nice after being so busy last weekend. We would normally have a cookout with our friends, but our yard currently looks like this:

{front yard}

{side yard}

We're in the middle of getting a sprinkler system put in, but the rain has caused the crew to have to stop and wait for everything to dry. I know our neighbors just love looking at this. Oh, well. Blame Mother Nature.

Do you guys have any big plans? I'm sure we'll come up with something to do besides keeping Knox from falling in the motes. :) Enjoy your weekend!

She's Got Legs

I'm happy with the "Biggest Loser" winner. And I'm happy about the "American Idol" winner. I won't spoil either if you haven't had a chance to watch them. But, I love the results!

And it's no surprise, I love Carrie Underwood. Did y'all see her on "American Idol" last night? I think this was the highlight of the show. The girl looks fabulous. She clearly out-dressed (and out-sang) Lauren Alaina.

I want her legs. Well, ok, I'll take her body (and hair) too. If I had to pick one part of my body that I could change about myself, it would be my legs. I've got those "cheerleader" legs. Always have.

I know we should love our bodies and I do, but I would love it more if I had Carrie's legs.

Seriously, y'all, look at them.
This girl has come a looooonnnngggg way from this.
I need to know how she does it. I guess I should give up sweets and fried food and live in the gym. But, we all know that ain't gonna happen.

Oh well, a girl can dream. Now pass me a Twinkie (but I did run 2 miles this morning)!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm loving last night's finale of "The Biggest Loser"! Don't worry, I won't spoil it for you. What did you think?

I'm loving American Idol. And tonight is the finale. It brings me to tears every time.

I love Scotty. He's so sweet and cute, but I also love Lauren Alaina. It's such a tough decision. And I voted for both of them.

I'm loving that I've started running again. It feels so good.

I'm loving that everything checked out clear with my procedure yesterday. And I didn't have any cavities at my dentist appointment. God is good.

I'm loving all of YOU!! Your sweet words, thoughts and prayers have meant so much to Fred and myself. I am reminded every day why I blog. Thank you.

What are you loving today? Visit Jamie and tell us!

Keeping Busy

First off, I want to thank all of you for your kind words, thoughts and prayers concerning Friday's post. I've debated whether or not to share this intimate detail of our lives, but the response I get is so overwhelming and I feel like we're not alone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I promise to share the remainder of our journey with you.

I love this time of year. The weather gets nicer and we get busier. I need a weekend to recoup from this weekend. We had a busy weekend, but it was great!! I want to request a re-do!

We kicked of the weekend on Friday with Fred's nephews' 1st birthday party.

Uncle Fred and Landon

Aunt Caroline and Landon

We couldn't stay at the party long though because we had tickets to see my favorite band, Foo Fighters!

They put on an awesome show!! There is never a bad seat at a Foo Fighters concert and they played for 3 hours! It was great!!

On Saturday, Fred and I went out to celebrate one of our friends' birthdays. His wife arranged a surprise dinner at a local sushi place followed by drinks at a local pub.

And to cap off the weekend, Sunday we went to church and we met up with our friends Ben and Emily and Sam and Leslie for dinner and froyo. It was a great end to a great weekend.

So, what did you do?

The Big Blow Out

Happy Friday, everyone. I haven't updated you guys about our quest to expand our family in a little while, but there hasn't been much going on.

The Clomid didn't seem to be working for me and I was having a terrible time with pain. So, Fred and I talked it over and informed my doctor that we have decided to forgo the medicine this month and for me to have a hysterosalpingogram (HSG).

It is a procedure where they basically blow out your fallopian tubes. This way any blockages or scar tissue from last year's surgery will be removed.

On Tuesday, I will be admitted to the hospital for an outpatient surgery. (The hospital has already called and wanted to make sure I had my deductible money ready for Tuesday. Nice, huh?)

I'm a little nervous about the pain from the procedure, but I really won't know anything until it is over. I am praying that this "blow out" will do the trick, but I know God has a plan.

If you've had this, can you give me any pointers? Or an idea of what to expect?

It feels like a new chapter in our journey and I am excited to see where it goes.

A Simple Thank You

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone doesn't send a "Thank You" note. Here lately, I've been to lots of baby and bridal showers and sent lots of gifts. But, many of the receivers haven't so much as even sent a "thank you" note.

I just think it's common courtesy to send a note thanking someone for their time and effort to seek out a gift and come, if they can, to your shower/party.

When I got married, I wrote thank you notes immediately after my showers. I had them in the mail within a week. I knew if I didn't do it then, I'd forget or lose the paper with the present and giver.

Now, I know not everyone is as organized and efficient as I am, but I think there's a certain amount of time that you should have to get these notes written. In my opinion, I think a month is long enough.

I also think you should try and personalize your notes instead of just writing "thanks for the gift". You'd be surprised how many times I've gotten this. I mean seriously, you can't take the time to write "thank you for the so-and-so"?

Ever since I was little, my mom wouldn't let me cash a check or keep money until I wrote the giver a thank you note. I hated it at the time, but now I realize how important that was. I hope to continue this tradition with my future children.

Whenever I host a shower, I always play ONE game...
Each guest will write their name and address on an envelope. I draw one or two lucky winners of a Starbucks or Target gift card. I take the envelopes and a stack of thank you cards, wrap it in a pretty bow and I give it to the bride or mother-to-be. Guests and the guest of honor love it.

I'll get off of my soap box now, but this is something that really bothers me. Where do you stand on the "Thank You" note issue?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm loving these Cuties mandarin oranges. So yummy! I could eat the entire bag in one sitting.
I'm loving that the Foo Fighters are coming to Memphis on Friday. Definitely one of the best bands live. I even had a dream about them Tuesday night.
I'm loving Oprah. I've watched the show for years, but she's down to her final episodes. Are you watching?

I'm loving that the temps are rising again and we can get back to Spring!

I'm loving these Jessica Simpson "Waleo" heels. I need some nude heels!
I'm loving this cute, little dachshund dessert tray from etsy.
And I'm ALWAYS loving these two guys!

I'm No Pioneer Woman

Since I've been under the weather, I really haven't felt like cooking. Poor Fred has been getting us take-out or ordering in for us. But, last night I was feeling better and decided to surprise Fred with a home cooked meal.

My dinner menu of choice: Pioneer Woman's Cajun Chicken Pasta.

I had a recipe, bought the ingredients and started cooking. When Fred got home, he even commented on how good everything looked and smelled. Everything was going well until it was time to eat this...
It looks yummy, right?

The problem: it didn't have flavor. We were so disappointed.

So, what do you do next? We decide to head to Baskin Robbins for a nutritious, delicious dinner. Hey, at least it had flavor.
Has this ever happen to you? I felt like a bad wife, but I blame the recipe, not the cook.
