In God We Trust

Last Thursday, our Baby Smithwick went to Heaven. We're not sure what happened, but tests are being done that will hopefully provide us with answers. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our pregnancy and who will continue to pray, love and support us through this tragedy.

{not sure why it keeps turning the pictures the wrong way}

Get Outta Here

Yesterday, we had an unwanted visitor...
Mr. Lizard was sitting by our stove. I was scared. Yep, scared of a tiny lizard.

I locked Knox and myself in our bedroom until Fred got home. I didn't want Mr. Lizard attacking us!

So, when Fred finally got home (it was only an hour and a half after me, but it seemed like eternity), he escorted a dead Mr. Lizard out of our house. I had no idea he was even dead.

Special thanks to Fred for saving the day! I just don't know what I'll do when Baby Smithwick gets older and brings in nasty things.

Babymoon

Our babymoon is booked!

We're going here...

Yes, Chicago!

We're headed there Labor Day weekend for a fun getaway. We figured the weather would be good and we could just spend time with ourselves. We are so excited!

We can't wait to see "The Bean",

The Cubs,

And the city in general.

It's been quite a few years since Fred and I have been to Chicago and we've never been together. If you have any must-see's or must-do's (or must-eat's), please let me know.

9 Weeks

How Far Along: 9 weeks

Size of Baby: Baby Smithwick is nearly an inch long — about the size of a green olive or grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: No loss. No gain.

Maternity Clothes:
Regular clothes for now. I did go ahead and buy some skirts with an elastic waistband from Ann Taylor Loft last weekend while they were 40% off. I figured I'd need them soon.

Gender: We still have a ways to go before we find out. Check back in September.

Movement: No movement. It's too early.

Cravings: Strawberries, Mexican food and milk (but not together). I may or may not have had Mexican 7 times in the past 6 days.

Aversions: None, thankfully.

Symptoms: Hunger and fatigue. I'm also starting to get mini-headaches. Thankfully, I haven't had morning sickness.

Labor Signs: None. WAY too early.

What I Miss:
Sleeping on my tummy and back. I'm in the process of training myself to sleep on my sides. It isn't going so well.

What I'm Looking Forward To: Seeing the baby again next week!

Weekly Wisdom: Still Rest. Rest. Rest. And eat healthy snacks.

Best Moment This Week: Going to look at baby furniture and discussing baby names.

Girl's Night Out

On Tuesday night, we had one of our Memphis Blog Girl's Dinner. It's been a few months since we've had one so it was great to catch up face to face. {from R to L: Leslie, Sarah, Meredith, Leigh Anne, me, Emily and Angie}

We've also had lots of BIG news in our group lately...

The four of us are going to be mommies! Leslie is due in December, Leigh Anne is due in January, and Sarah and I are due in February (just one day apart). It's great to have these women to compare pregnancy notes.

Emily also shared her news that she is leaving us and moving to Nashville. We'll miss her!

It was so great catching up with everyone in person. It's so funny how most of us came together as strangers and now we're friends.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm loving Baby Smithwick (only 7 more months until we meet him/her), my wonderful husband and Knox!

I'm loving
air conditioning. It's been in the upper 90's in Memphis and it's just plain HOT outside. Not to mention how humid it is.

I'm loving Pinterest, but really, who isn't?

I'm loving strawberries right now. I might just kill for a strawberry cake!

I'm loving the idea of cooking Fred and I a delicious meal, but I just don't have the energy. I wake up from my nap and it's dinner time. Plus, who wants to cook in this heat?

Walk The Walk

We all know I enjoy exercising. It's sort of my reality getaway. Many of you have asked me what I've been doing to workout during pregnancy. Well, I've been walking.

I haven't been to Jazzercise or Pure Barre since I found out I was pregnant. And I haven't attempted to run either. I've known people who have continued with their normal workout routine, but I decided walking was the best option for me.

During the week, I wake up at 6am, throw on some clothes and hit the neighborhood walking. I can do our entire neighborhood (a little over 4 miles) in a little less than an hour.

Getting out of bed at 6am stinks, but with the heat, I have to walk in the morning. It's also quite calm and peaceful that early in the morning. And the neighbors don't stop to chit chat. I find that I can lace my shoes, put on my iPod and clear my mind to prepare for the day ahead.

It's really helped me to have more energy during the day. I've heard stories about women who walked while they were pregnant had a quicker delivery and recovery was better. I'm not too worried with the weight gain. I just want to stay healthy.

What exercise have you tried or are you doing during pregnancy?

In the morning a man walks with his whole body; in the evening, only with his legs.

Miscellany Monday

On Friday afternoon, my mom, dad and I took Willie and Knox to an ice cream social at their vet's office. The boys had a great time, but were skeptical about being at the vets.

{Knox wanted everyone else's ice cream.}
{Mom, stop taking pics.}

{Willie staring down the other dogs.}

On Friday night, Fred and I went to see Harry Potter. We were long overdue for a dinner and movie date night. I haven't read the books, but Fred said that this movie was as close as you could get to the book.

More pregnancy cravings kicked in this weekend and we may or may not have eaten at Moe's Southwest Grill and Taco Bell. And I may or may not have asked Fred to make his delicious fajitas on the grill. Blame the baby.

We also spent some time with friends and family. It was a great weekend and I wasn't to thrilled to hear the clock go off this morning, but duty calls.

So, what did you guys do this weekend?

8 Weeks

How Far Along: 8 weeks

Size of baby: Baby Smithwick is the size of a kidney bean.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: No loss. No gain.

Maternity Clothes: Regular clothes for now.

Gender: We have no idea. One day I have a "feeling" Baby Smithwick is a girl and the next day it'll be a boy.

Movement: No movement. It's too early.

Cravings: Tomatoes. I want tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato soup! And I never really cared for tomatoes.

Aversions: None as of now!

Symptoms: Hunger and fatigue.

Labor Signs: None. WAY too early.

What I miss: I miss drinking diet cokes. My doctor said one a day, but I decided to give them up completely.

What I'm looking forward to: Seeing the baby again in 10 days! And the next few months!

Weekly Wisdom: Rest. Rest. Rest. And eat healthy snacks.

Best Moment this week: Seeing Baby Smithwick on the ultrasound machine again. I can't believe how much he/she has grown in such a short amount of time. We got to see the arms, legs and the spine. Too bad the pic doesn't give you a better picture.

Baby Mania

How We Told the Parents:

Fred and I are both close with our families. We decided to tell them the day we found out since I was leaving for Phoenix the next day.

First, we went to my parents house. My dad was out of town; so, I had to call him and tell him on the phone. I gave my mom a sack of stuff and as she was ruffling through it she pulled out a pregnancy test. At first she thought it was a marker, but then realized what it was and said. My grandfather and mom were so excited as was my poor dad on the phone.

We then went to Fred's parents house. I started out by showing his mom some pictures from the NKOTBSB concert and then it went to a picture of the positive pregnancy tests. She squealed. She immediately showed it to his dad and they were so excited!

If we'd had more time, we probably would have done something a little more fun, but as you know, we can't keep secrets!

Doctors Visits:

My trip to Phoenix was the longest four days of my life. I had to wait until that next Monday for our first ultrasound. Fred and I were both on pins and needles.

Not only did I know that I was pregnant, but I had been informed that I had Factor V Leiden (a blood clotting disorder). I was told that I'd have to begin taking Heparin shots twice a day until delivery and then for 6 weeks after delivery. I was scared. Most women don't find out about this until they have miscarried. My doctor had only checked for this since I had a family history for blood clots. This made the wait even more excruciating.

We had our first ultrasound on June 27, 2011. I was 5 weeks and 5 days.

Everything looked great with the baby and I learned how to inject myself with the shots. {I used to be the kid they had to hold down, but now I'm a big girl.}

After the ultrasound, we went to dinner at Pei Wei Asian Diner. After dinner we opened our fourtune cookies and this is what we found:
Kinda ironic, huh? Now, I just wonder if Baby Smithwick is a boy. Fred and I do plan on finding out the sex of the baby as soon as we can.

On July 6, we had another ultrasound to make sure Baby Smithwick was doing great. I had some pain and spotting, but they found that it was just fluid. Praise the Lord! I was 7 weeks 1 day.

And on July 11, we saw Baby Smithwick again. I was measuring 7 weeks 5 days.

Isn't it amazing how fast they grow? I have another ultrasound scheduled for July 25 and I couldn't be more excited I'll be almost 10 weeks then. Just a 1/4 of the way to meeting our baby!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm loving Baby Smithwick!

I'm loving tomatoes! I cannot get enough of them right now.

I'm loving my Boppy Total Body Pillow. It's comfy. I wish I would have had one of these years ago. I think it's good for even non-pregnant people.

I'm loving Jenny McCarthy's "Belly Laughs". She cracks me up!
I'm loving all of my wonderful blog followers!

And I'm always loving Fred and Knox! :)
