What's in a Name?

Last week, I stopped by the grocery store on my way home from work.  Now, this wasn't my usual store, but it was the one closest to home and it was part of the same chain of stores.

I mainly ran in to get some Boar's Head cajun turkey breast and the woman at the counter informed me that they didn't carry that brand and that I had expensive tastes.  Really?   It's not like I was at the Louis Vuitton of supermarkets.

I had no idea they didn't carry Boar's Head like "my store" since they're the same store. But it got me thinking that I do prefer to buy the brand names over generic items on most everything.
Is it because it's truly better? Or because I like the "name"?   I don't really know.

Which do you prefer?

And speaking of names, I want to wish my dad, aka James Brown, a very Happy Birthday!  I love you very much!  xoxo

When it comes to Macaroni and Cheese the name KRAFT IS BETTER! Never go generic on Mac and cheese. No can do. :)

I think sometimes the brand names are better than the generic, but sometimes you really can't tell the difference. Boar's Head is delicious. I will agree with you. Happy Birthday to your Dad! :)

Ketchup, syrup- stuff where the exact taste is essential, I don't do generic. But some things it really is the same. My fiancé and I decided to try generics on our last trip to the grocery and Target brand almost everything was just as good!

some generics are just as good as originals. i agree that target brand stuff is usually pretty great. but sandwich meat is tricky...i only like boar's head...such good quality and i have been eating it my whole life!

Too funny! I'll only eat Boar's Head, but didn't know that meant I had expensive taste. ;-)

I LOVE their Cajun turkey...bought some myself yesterday :) It depends on what it is, but sometimes I really do like the name brand better. Mostly cereals and chips. I buy mostly store brand dairy products and bread. I think it just depends on what it is.

Depends. Some name brands really are better. Other things I have found don't really matter!

Boars Head is fancy? I had literally no idea.

It really depends on the product. Some things we definitely go generic on but others no way. Milk, ketchup, mayo, toilet paper...no way! Brand loyal :)

My husband and I almost ALWAYS by generic. But there are definitely some things that have a different taste...although occasionally we even like the generic better than name brand!
Who knew just going to the grocery store could be an adventure into your own psyche, though?! :P

Definitely depends on the product. If I'm going to try generic, I do it one item at a time. When it comes to medicine though, I always get generic. Chemically it is the same. If it's X mg of one thing in the name brand and the same in the generic, then I go for generic. Target brand is a pretty good generic.

My Kroger doesn't have boars head meat and my husband didn't believe me at first. Our Kroger isn't fancy enough ha ha !!!!

I can go generic on some things but on other things I wont budge. Boars head does have the best deli meat and the cajun chicken is my favorite too!

If I'm having lunch meat, it's gotta be Boars Head!

Name brand on most things...I find if an item's on sale, it can even be cheaper than the generic brand.

It depends on what the item is, but I'm usually a brand snob!

Target's store brand is always a winner though!

There are a lot of things that I am super picky about and will only buy a certain name brand thing... deli style lunch meat is only Boar's head for me! There are somethings I'll buy a few select store brands on but mostly are little things like papertowels or trashbags. I refuse to buy storebrand toilet paper!

I get groceries at Kroger and get Kroger brand quite often. Also, Target's Up & Up brand is awesome in pretty much everything. There are only a select few things I will only buy name brand in. I like the feeling of knowing I'm saving money without having to do much work (like couponing).

We definitely buy generic with some things and name brand with others. Deli meat I DEFINITELY go name brand. I don't mess around with the cheap crap. But we actually PREFER western family mac n cheese over the kraft brand, ha ha!

Sometimes the name brand is worth the price though! I usually get really generic stuff for foil and bags.
