Thursday Training: Road Race Series

Forget what I said about not running any races this summer.  I've signed up to participate in the Memphis Runners Track Club's 2012 Road Race Series.

The series consists of TWO 5Ks, TWO 5-milers, TWO 10Ks, TWO 10-Milers, and TWO half marathons.  Have I lost my mind???
My goal right now is to complete one of each of the races, but if I feel like it, I might just run two half marathons.  The series takes place during July through November.  I feel like this is a great way to work towards my goal of running a half marathon and improving my running capabilities.

You know I'll be tracking it all here.

Have you done something similar to this?  Any advice or encouragement is welcome.

This sounds like fun! The two half marathons would scare me. I did a 20K a few weeks ago and was so sore afterwards...but I must've gotten over it b/c I just signed up for a half marathon in October. Good luck! Can't wait to read about it :)

My next race is the Women's Half in Nashville in September. I was gonna do the Greenline Half but the Color Run is the day before and that one looked like more fun ;) Do you get to do the Greenline as part of the series?

My husband and I are going to do this series as well. I think we are just going to use them as practice, or training runs for the St. Jude. I'm doing the half, he's doing the full, and we knew a lof of people last year who did it. I'm excited!

We don't have an entire series like that in Chicago, but I try to schedule my training in a similar fashion - if I am training for a half, I will sign up for ten milers, etc! Good luck!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the road race series! i've done it the past 2 years. it is great to train for a half marathon. then kyle and i were those freaks that ran after the 10-miler in shelby forrest to prepare for the full marathon. i did a blog (just found it!) http://mccoymemories.blogspot.com/2011/12/famous-runners.html
about how i hated those overacheivers and then we were one of those people!! (bc we had to get a 14 miler in) ha! shelby forrest 10 miler is the hardest due to the hills but they took a lot of the hills out! but it is the PRETTIEST b/c of the fall leaves. also, i recommend going to th general store after the 10 miler and have a burger! YUM! have fun and i cant wait to hear about your adventures! angie
