10K's Aren't So Bad After All

Knox wasn't the only one racing this weekend.  On Sunday, I ran in my first 10K of the Memphis Runner's Track Club's Road Race Series.  This was my second 10K and I was ready to prove that 10K's didn't hate me.  My last one was a killer and I never wanted to do another 10K again.

The day started out great.  The weather really couldn't have been any better.  It was about 60 degrees when we started and it was just perfect for 6.2 miles.  The only downfall to the race was that practically all of mile 5 was uphill.  Whew!

Fred came out to film me crossing the finish line for our adoption video, but I didn't know it was going to end with me coming uphill.  I hope I didn't look too out of breath!

I finished with an official time of  55:55.  This was a new personal record for me!  Going in to the race I had two goals, survive and beat my previous 10K time of 59:47.  Like Knox, I didn't win, but I finished.  And I am so happy to say that I did!
Stats:
Official time: 55:55
Pace: 9:01

My next race will either be a 4-miler, another 10K or a 10-miler.  Or maybe all of them!

Great job! I was at this 10K and finished about 25 seconds behind you. I read your blog all the time and remember seeing those shorts at the start and thinking they were cute. I guess I didn't recognize you or else I would have introduced myself. Maybe I will see you at the ten miler!
