How It All Started...

A lot of you have been inquiring about how I got started into running and half marathon training.  So, I want to share a quick recap about when and where it all began...
In January 2012, I was searching for something that incorporated lots and lots of cardio in to my exercise routine.  I tried the elliptical for a while, but that just wasn't working for me.  So, I got the bright idea to start using the Couch to 5K app on my iPhone.

Now, I knew I wasn't a real couch potato so I started training on week 4 and worked my way up.  In February, I ran my first 5K and I caught the running bug.

I then decided to conquer a 10K.  I downloaded the Bridge to 10K app, but it didn't work for me.  So, I gradually started increasing my mileage until I reached 6.2 miles (a 10K).  I had a specific 10K in mind, the Memphis in May 10K, so I tried to do one 5K a month leading up to the 10K.

After I completed a 10K, I had the bright idea that I could and I would do a half marathon.  I came across a road race series complete with a 5K, 5-miler, 10K, 10-miler, and a half marathon and knew I had to sign up for them.

I used the races as training schedule and then started using this and this half marathon training schedule.  (I used both as a guide depending on what was going on in my life that week)

Now, here I am two days away from my second half marathon and I can't believe this journey started in January.  I am a firm believer that...
Running has been my outlet and my therapist for so many things. I once heard that 20 minutes of running is better than any therapy!

Running has now become a passion and a lifestyle and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me!

Love this!! But unfortunately for me, long distance running isn't for everyone. 3 miles is my max!! haha! :)

So proud of you! I'm on week 6 of the couch to 5k program and I feel like my legs are going to fall off after each run! Hopefully I'll be able to do another half next year.

Running = free therapy. Just you and the pavement. I'm running my first half in Feb- terrifiying and exciting all at once! Have you ever had any problems with injury?! New runner problems. Happy Thursday Caroline!

Thank you for posting this! I have had trouble becoming a better runner. I made the first step to really and truly better motivate myself by signing up for a 5k. You are motivational!

I love seeing how people progress with running. I started running before my wedding to lose weight and I could barely run 3k without walking multiple times. And now I've run 6 half marathons! Craziness

I agree, no matter what mood you are when you leave for a run you can't help but to come back better!! What about a full? I am training for mine in February, somedays I feel like I GOT THIS and somedays.....not so much
