True Colors

Today is College Colors Day!  It's an actual day where people are encouraged to wear their favorite college's colors to help promote public awareness of higher education, the "kick-off" of intercollegiate athletics and celebrates colleges and universities nationwide.

I wanted to show off my alma mater's colors with some pics of some super cute University of South Florida stuff that I am currently lusting after:

Who's colors are you wearing today?

Thursday Training: You Can Do It

As you know, I have been doing a local Road Race Series and the final race will be a 1/2 marathon.  Eek!

Honestly, I didn't think I'd really hang on that long and really take the 1/2 marathon training seriously.  Let's be honest, 13.1 miles is a LONG way!

I've printed off schedules and done a little research, but I hadn't started really training.

After last Friday's 7 mile run, I feel like I can do anything.  The 1-2-3-4-5-6 miles weren't all that hard because I've run each of those distances before, but 7 miles was new.

Now, I know that I can do it!  I've knocked 7 miles out so what's another mile or 6?

Here is this week's workouts:
Sunday 8/26: Rest
Monday 8/27: 4 mile run
Tuesday 8/28:  Pure Barre
Wednesday 8/29: 4 mile run
Thursday 8/30: Rest
Friday 8/31: 8 mile run (all depends on Issac and if the rain comes)
Saturday 9/1:  Rest
**all workouts are subject to change

Do-Get-Be Better

On Monday, I attended my first Junior League general membership meeting of the 2012-2013 year. The meeting started out with our current president talking about how she wanted to become a better person this year.  Ironically, that was the unintentional theme of the evening.
This really got me thinking not only about doing more and better work through Junior League, but in all aspects of my life.  I want to be a better Christina, wife, daughter, granddaughter, dog mommy, daughter-in-law, friend, and citizen.  I want to be a better blogger, runner, travel junkie and Pure Barre enthusiast.  I want to eat better, drink more water and get more sleep.

While there's no real easy way to gauge exactly how to accomplish these things, I feel that I can do more with my time and my resources to not only better myself, but the world as a whole.   I'm a little nervous about stepping out of the box more and trying new things, but isn't life about taking risks?

I challenge you to take on this mantra as well.  It's never too late to start becoming the person you've always dreamed of being.

{Product Review} HANA Pro 1" Flat Iron

I was so honored to be asked to review a HANA Pro 1" Flat Iron for Misikko
My reasons:
1.  My current flat iron just got a crack in it.
2.  Who doesn't love trying new products?

My first opinion of the flat iron was that it was so light weight.  Compared to my last one, this the HANA Pro felt like a feather.  Second, it works so well.  My hair feels shinier and straighter.  I am in LOVE!

Misikko has never steered me wrong.  In January, they sent me the Professional Hair Dryer and I still love using it.

If you're in the market for a new flat iron, definitely give the HANA Pro 1" Flat Iron for Misikko.  It sells for $129.98, so you won't break the bank.  Plus they will ship it to you the same day!  You definitely won't be disappointed.

*This flat iron was sent to me to honestly review and post my opinions and experience. I was not paid to promote the item in any way.

Weekend What Nots

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Here's a little bit about how we spent our weekend:

1.  I ran 7 miles.  Never in my life have I run 7 miles and it actually felt good.  Not to mention I finished in 1:11:04.  Bring on the 1/2 marathon!
2.  Our weekend got started a little early with Fred coming home for lunch on Friday and then heading to the opening of the new Lululemon store.  This is only going to fuel my obsession.

3.  On Friday afternoon, we headed to the lake to spend some time with my family.  We made sure a little rain didn't ruin our plans.  I've got to start remembering to take my camera on the boat!
4.  We also got to spend some time with our neighbor's, who have a 3 yr old and 5 yr old.  They are the cutest things.  It was great practice for parenthood and I learned so much.  Who knew they had so much energy?!

5.  I also found the paint color I have been looking for and the nursery planning is coming together.  More details on that later.

6.  There's nothing like a 5:30am wake up call on Sunday morning from your alarm company telling you that you're alarm is going off.  Thankfully, it was a false alarm and some wind must have shaken our windows.  Sorry, neighbors!

7.  Today marks 5 years since Fred proposed to me in Gulf Shores.  Not a day goes by that I would have changed my answer. xoxo
8.  Today is Monday, so it's back to reality, work and my first Junior League meeting of the year!
So, what did you do?

Top Knot

Now that my hair is long, I keep trying to find new and different ways to style it. I know the "bun" is not new, but someone is always reinventing it and making it cuter.

My everyday bun is sitting on top of my head when I roll out of bed and get to working out.  It's not a pretty sight.

Here are some of my favorite buns out there right now:
If only my hair would stay up like this all day....

Do you have any tips for creating the perfect bun?

Thursday Training: Pure Barre for Runners?

As you know, I love Pure Barre and running.  The two may sound completely different, but they work well together.

Pure Barre has helped me improve my running in ways I didn't think possible.  Here are some examples of how I've noticed a difference:
  • I  have more lean muscle.
  • I am more flexible and able to stretch deeper, especially before and after runs.
  • I am more aware of my body and my positioning.
  • My balance and coordination have improved, especially in the core region.
  • It's helped make me breathe deeper and slower thus helping me on my runs.
  • My arms are more toned which help make trying to run faster a bit easier than before.
Now these are just things that have worked for me, but if you're thinking about ways to improve your running, try a yoga, pilates or barre class.

{Home Makeover} Patio Edition

Over the weekend, I got a wild hair to do a little different to our back patio. Our patio furniture was a nice hand-me-down from my parents, but the cushions had tears in them and were quite faded.

I never go to Garden Ridge (mainly because it's out of my way), but I'm so glad I stopped and found these fun lime green cushions and flower accents.  Unfortunately, they did not have any lime green pillows for the bench, but I'm sure I'll find something.

Even though summer is coming to an end, I thought these were just bright, fun and happy!
We tested these bad boys out on Sunday and they feel like you're at a Mexican resort.  Now, all we need is a waiter to bring us drinks!
What do you think?

We've Been Approved

What does that mean?

We are now legally and officially ready to bring home our baby!  Basically, we're approved to be parents!

What is an adoption home study?

The adoption home study is a detailed, written report of your family life compiled and prepared by a professional social worker.  Some of the information collected for the home study include:

family/autobiographical background
physical health
criminal clearances
parental training

It is not an easy process and it requires quite a bit of time and effort.

Over the weekend we did quite a bit of filming of our family and friends for our adoption video.  We are so blessed to have so many people who love us and are willing to help us achieve our dream of having a family of our own.

Right now, we're waiting for our agency to receive our paperwork and to finish our online and print profiles.  All still looks great to be on schedule for going "active" in September.

MiMO: Bracelets

I've really started loving the layered bracelets that I keep seeing all over Pinterest!
So, I decided to make it my own....
The cross bracelets are from a jewelry and gifts show I went to a few weeks ago.
One is David Yurman and the other is a bracelet my mom and dad brought back from a trip.

Do you follow this trend?

Adventures in Adoption

Life in the adoption world has not slowed down.  I really feel like these types of posts should be like "bump dates" since so much happens from week to week.
I actually think we have more going on right now that we did when we were gathering pictures and writing articles.  But, here's what we've been up to:

1.  Our individual interviews and in-home part of the home study are complete.  We're just waiting on our social worker to complete her report and for us to read through it for the first time.
2.  Our biggest task this week was getting life insurance (one of the things no one tells you).  Check.

3.  Our profile with our agency has been moved into the "design" stage.  This means they accepted the 86 photos we sent in and the 9 articles about our lives.  We should get our first look at our print and online profiles in the next week or two.

4.  Our agency mailed us the camera for the video portion of our profile.  We will have the camera for a month.  Now, we're busy trying to figure out where to film, what to say, and what to wear (maybe the last one is just me).

5.  We're researching everything baby!  Please ignore the 100+ baby pins a day on Pinterest.

All still seems on track to become "active" in September.  We just keep praying everything stays on course.  And you know I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Road Race Series 5-Miler #1

On Sunday, I ran in my first 5-miler of the Memphis Runner's Track Club's Road Race Series.  This was my first 5 mile race and I was super excited.  The weather couldn't have been any better.  It was only 70 degrees when we started and it was just perfect.
I am so happy to tell you that I finished in 44:00.  This was a new personal record for me.  Going in to the race I had one goal, make it in 45 minutes and I did.
I even had to wear my USA running top in celebration of the Olympics coming to an end!

Official time: 44:00
Age group: 22/72
Pace:  8:48

Thursday Training: I Want to Be...

A "Golden Girl" when I grow up!

No, not these ladies (well, maybe in my golden years).
But these awesome ladies...
Congratulations, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings on your 3rd Olympic GOLD!

You are amazing!

That is all!

A Hard Knox Life

I know I've been talking about the adoption a lot, but I haven't forgotten about our beloved fur baby, Knox. While we've been working hard at all of the paper work and getting ready for our home study, Knox has been....

playing in the dirt thus acquiring the nickname "Pig Pen",
hunting for lizards (and other critters) in the bushes,
relaxing on the couch,
and talking nightly walks, but...
he's been staying up late watching the Olympics!
{this is how he sees the wieners}
Knox just got his letter about the annual "Running of the Weenies" race so, practice starts soon!

Shopping Frenzy

I've always said that Memphis is not a place for shopping.  Well, good things are heading our way this month...
Memphis is finally getting a Home Goods.  I've been waiting for this for quite some time.  I've definitely got some home improvement projects waiting on this store.  I sure hope it doesn't disappoint.

opening Sunday, August 12
We've had a Lululemon showroom, but now we're getting an actual store.  I might need to get a part time job there to help fund my obsession.

opening Thursday, August 23
Now, if we could just get a Pottery Barn, Tiffany & Co., Nordstrom, IKEA, and H&M, we'd be in business!
