In the Zone

As I mentioned on Sunday, I bought the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor last week.  It's great knowing my heart rate, but I really like knowing my calorie burn.  I've been using it for over a week now and I have to say that I am quite impressed and a little upset that I didn't get one sooner.

It comes with two pieces...

the watch

 and the strap
You must wear the strap in order for the heart rate monitor to work.  At first I was hesitant because I didn't want to feel something wrapped around my ribs during my workout, but the strap is actually quite comfortable.  I slide it underneath the band of my sports bra and go.  Before I used it, I put the strap on and walked around the house for a few hours to get used to it.

It pokes out a little, but who cares.  No one is looking.

It's easy to set up and easy to use.  It literally took me 5 minutes to program it.

I've used the monitor at Fusion and while running.  When I've run on the treadmill, the monitor automatically connected with the treadmill and showed my heart rate on the screen.  That was a nice little perk!

I picked up mine at Sports Authority, but you can order them online or check your local athletic store.  If you've been on the fence about getting a heart rate monitor, I would highly recommend the Polar FT4.   If you don't like pink, they have other colors too.

I only wear this when I am working out, but I'm sure you could keep it on all day if you wanted to check your calorie burn, but remember, you have to wear the strap.

**I was not paid to review this heart rate monitor nor did I receive any compensation for this review.  I bought this with my own money and my review of this heart rate monitor are based solely on my own opinion.

YAY! I have a heart rate monitor that I used to use all the time, and then I stopped. That was stupid of me. HAHA!

Does it record steps/miles? I'm interested in something like this but I'm not sure if I'm looking for too much.

I'm glad you got one and love it! I love knowing my calorie burn. It definitely keeps things real. It amazes me how much running burns, and it leads me to being a little disappointed sometimes in other workouts and their burn.

I have the same one and I have been wondering how accurate the calorie counter is. I know that treadmills, ellipticals, etc. notoriously overestimate how many calories you burn, but there was almost a 200 calorie difference between my monitor and the elliptical the other day.

I have the same monitor and absolutely love it. I bought it mainly for the calorie counter. I coudln't believe how easy it was to set up either!

I have the same monitor and I was worried about the strap as well. It didn't bother me like I thought it would.

So glad you posted about this! I keep seeing others little updates with their calorie burn so I was wanting to learn more. So do you have to buy the band or does it come with the watch?

Thanks for the review, I've thought about buying one of these watches :-)

I have a F7 that I have been using for over 2 years now and love it. I use it for everything from running, Zumba, spinning, and everything in between. My next purchase is a Garmin Forerunner 10, I hope I will love this as much as my Polar.

The watch and HRM on on the top of my Birthday wish list. I can't believe you've been running so long without one! Well that goes for me too LOL Thanks for sharing this info!

I am the last blog mom in the world without a watch, but now I want one. Also, now that you have Eli, I think you need to do a day in the life post. When you work/workout/etc. Big Holly is nosy.
