Weekly Workouts Recap: Beginning Training

Today I am linking up with my friend and fellow runner, Meghan, at Little Girl in the Big World for her Weekly Workouts Recap.

I've been toying with the idea of completing a half marathon in 2 weeks.  This half would only be for the milage in my marathon training.  I'm not looking for a PR.  Lately, my longest run had been 6 miles, so I knew if I wanted to try to do the half that I was going to have to up my milage this week and next.

So, here's this week's training recap:

Monday:  4 miles easy on the treadmill

Tuesday:  The chart says 6, but I really only ran 5.5.  I was feeling so good that morning that I just kept going.  I could have gone longer, but it was time for Fred and Eli to start getting up.  To date, this was my longest treadmill run ever!

Wednesday:  Much needed rest day

Thursday:  I ran another 4 miles.  This time, I tried one of my Gu packets before the run to see if I could tolerate the taste and how it would work.  I must say that I felt energized and it wasn't half bad.  I tried the Mint Chocolate one and it wasn't so bad since it was minty and I had just brushed my teeth with a mint toothpaste.
Friday:  I just did my Pure Barre Mile High 2 DVD which was recently named one of the "10 hottest workout DVDs of 2013."

Saturday:  I had originally had it on my calendar to complete a 5K, but with the highs only in the 30's and snow flurries, I backed out.  I still needed to get in my 8 miles so I toyed with the idea of running outside when the temp got to 38 or going to the gym and running on the treadmill.  I chose the treadmill.  I knew I could do it and it was mind over matter.  The stupid treadmill cut off at 1 hour and I still had one mile left, so I had to make it could.  I rant the last mile in 8 minutes flat.
Sunday:  Today I might do my Pure Barre Mile High 1 DVD.  Since my training plan says to do strength and stretch.  I really hope I can get this in since we have church and then another Sip and See this afternoon.

So, how were your workouts this week?

Awesome training this week Caroline! Thanks for linking up! Those long treadmill runs will definitely build the mental fortitude that you need for the long runs that'll start this summer! I love your new blog design!!

They are opening three Pure Barre locations here in Chicago and I am really excited about it. I took a class in Nashville and loved it, plus I am ready for a new studio (I usually go to Bar Method). Your running looks strong - nice work! I am currently training for a half in May and then gearing up for the Chicago Marathon!
