Bring on the Next Challenge

On Saturday, I ran in the Youth Villages 10-miler.  In all of the races I've done, this was my very first 10-miler.  I set a goal of finishing in 1 hour and 30 minutes.  I was a little nervous, but I knew I could do it.

The race started off with perfect weather and the course was really pretty (through neighborhoods and on the greenway).  I even had a first out on the road where a woman I passed caught up to me and asked what my pace was.  I told her about an 8:30 mile and she said she wanted to try to keep up.  I've never been a pace setter, but it was really an honor.  Unfortunately, she didn't keep up, but she congratulated me in the end.

I met my goal and finished in 1 hour and 25 minutes and 1 second (my dad likes for me to add that 1 second detail).  My pace was 8:31 so right on track.  Fred surprised me by bringing Eli and Knox out to the finish line to cheer me on (I wish I would have gotten a pic).  I ended up placing 2nd in my age group, another honor.

After my run, a shower and some lunch, I stopped by our local Lululemon store because they were having a plank contest.  No word on what the prize was, but who cares.  By now, you know how much I love a challenge.  Before my plank, the best time was 5 minutes and 8 seconds.  After completing the "Plank Month" challenge in March, I knew I had this.  I ended up stopping at 5 minutes and 32 seconds.  The contest ended Saturday night, but they haven't announced the winner yet.  Hopefully I'll hear something today.
Next Saturday, I might not be as crazy since I'm running a half marathon, but you NEVER know.

Girl, you are rocking it! I just saw on your sidebar that you have run over 300 miles this year. That is awesome. I need to get back into running but I just can't get motivated!
