On Saturday, I ran in the Youth Villages 10-miler. In all of the races I've done, this was my very first 10-miler. I set a goal of finishing in 1 hour and 30 minutes. I was a little nervous, but I knew I could do it.
The race started off with perfect weather and the course was really pretty (through neighborhoods and on the greenway). I even had a first out on the road where a woman I passed caught up to me and asked what my pace was. I told her about an 8:30 mile and she said she wanted to try to keep up. I've never been a pace setter, but it was really an honor. Unfortunately, she didn't keep up, but she congratulated me in the end.
I met my goal and finished in 1 hour and 25 minutes and 1 second (my dad likes for me to add that 1 second detail). My pace was 8:31 so right on track. Fred surprised me by bringing Eli and Knox out to the finish line to cheer me on (I wish I would have gotten a pic). I ended up placing 2nd in my age group, another honor.
