Weekly Workouts Recap 3/25 - 3/31

Happy Easter!  I hope all of you are enjoying this day with your friends and family.  I'm using today as my rest day so I can enjoy my time with my family.

This past week went pretty well.  Two longer runs on the treadmill and I'm training myself to get up 30 minutes earlier to get in these runs.  I'm still looking forward to the weather finally kicking into Spring so I can take the boys out on a daily basis.  Here's my weekly recap...

Monday 3/25:  6.25 miles on the treadmill  (7:58 pace) Since I skipped my long run last week, I decided to try 6 miles on the treadmill.  Success.

Tuesday 3/26:  4 miles on the treadmill (8:37 pace) I've been taking more with Christin about slowing down my pace, especially when my milage really picks up for the marathon.  This run was a test and it felt like I was crawling, but I know it will only help.

Wednesday 3/27:  I walked the boys 4.54 miles (20:40pace) then I went to Fusion Fitness Memphis.

Thursday 3/28:  7 miles on the treadmill (8:22 pace) I needed this long run and this was the only day and time I could fit it in.  I am proud to say that I finished in one hour.

Friday 3/29: 4 miles on the treadmill (8:13 pace)...I didn't follow Christin's advice on this one because I was limited with my time. Oops!

Saturday 3/30:  Fusion Fitness Memphis class.  I opted to skip Core, but my inner thighs are sore from Fusion.   I also completed the final day of Plank Month with 5 whole minutes of planking.  Whew!  I took two 5 second breaks in there, but I completed it.

Sunday 3/31:  Rest.

How did your workouts go this week?

In the Zone

As I mentioned on Sunday, I bought the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor last week.  It's great knowing my heart rate, but I really like knowing my calorie burn.  I've been using it for over a week now and I have to say that I am quite impressed and a little upset that I didn't get one sooner.

It comes with two pieces...

the watch

 and the strap
You must wear the strap in order for the heart rate monitor to work.  At first I was hesitant because I didn't want to feel something wrapped around my ribs during my workout, but the strap is actually quite comfortable.  I slide it underneath the band of my sports bra and go.  Before I used it, I put the strap on and walked around the house for a few hours to get used to it.

It pokes out a little, but who cares.  No one is looking.

It's easy to set up and easy to use.  It literally took me 5 minutes to program it.

I've used the monitor at Fusion and while running.  When I've run on the treadmill, the monitor automatically connected with the treadmill and showed my heart rate on the screen.  That was a nice little perk!

I picked up mine at Sports Authority, but you can order them online or check your local athletic store.  If you've been on the fence about getting a heart rate monitor, I would highly recommend the Polar FT4.   If you don't like pink, they have other colors too.

I only wear this when I am working out, but I'm sure you could keep it on all day if you wanted to check your calorie burn, but remember, you have to wear the strap.

**I was not paid to review this heart rate monitor nor did I receive any compensation for this review.  I bought this with my own money and my review of this heart rate monitor are based solely on my own opinion.

Finish the Sentence: Part 2

I am linking up again with Holly and Jake for their "Finish the Sentence Link-Up".  Let's face it, I'm in a bit of a blogging rut and this is just the thing I needed to have something to post about...
1. If calories didn't count, I would eat everything in sight.  Seriously, what would I have to lose?
2. On my Prom night, I went to prom and came home.  Lame, but let's face it, college was WAY better than high school.
3. When I go to the store, I always buy bananas.  They're my favorite and easiest fruit to eat.
4. Family functions typically turn in to all day affairs.  What can I say, we enjoy each other's company!
5. I think my blog readers are the BEST!  And I am so thankful for their positive comments and support!  Love you!
6. I'd much rather be somewhere warm and tropical with a beach.  This weather is for the birds.
7. I have an obsession with chapstick.  I've got one squirreled away in every room in the house.  I also don't leave home without it.
8. My work friends are all males.  Working in the marine industry, I am surrounded by males.   But it's all ok since my hubby is my co-worker.
9. When I created my Facebook account, Facebook was cool.  Now it's lame and seems like all of my friends are out to save the animals of the world.  Don't get me wrong, I love animals, but every posting.  C'mon. I really only use Facebook to house my photos.
10. My least favorite word is "totes".  Sorry. Totes annoying!
11. I really don't remember much about December 2012 - February 2013.  It's all been such a blur since Eli's arrival.  I feel like I'm finally coming back to life.  Watch out!
12. Justin Bieber gets me every.single.time with his catchy songs.  I want to hate him, but I can't. I may be 30, but I have Bieber-Fever!

C'mon and join us!  Who needs to really think on a Tuesday anyway???

The Many Faces of E

I can't believe March is almost over.  We've been so busy and I just have to share with you the many faces of Eli.  He's truly the happiest, sweetest, and cutest baby EVER!

So, here's what we've been up to...

Eli has fully embraced March Madness!  He was so happy for his Memphis Tigers to make it to the 3rd round of the NCAA tournament, but so sad about his Tennessee Vols losing in the 1st round of the NIT!
Eli took his first trip to the zoo and loved it!
We took Eli's 3 month and Easter pictures with our favorite photog, Melissa
Eli was finally able to wear his little Ralph Lauren sport coat and overalls to church.  Doesn't he look so dapper?  Too bad he only lasted in the outfit a little over an hour.  Oh well.
We took Eli to meet the Easter Bunny.  He didn't cry, but he did stare at him like, "What the???"
Eli also rocked his adorable St. Patty's Day onesie from Leah at Everyday Love.  He certainly didn't want to get pinched!
These are just a few things we've been up to.  The weather has been crummy so we haven't been getting out as much as we'd like, but hopefully this will be the last week of winter-like weather!

What have you been up to?

Weekly Workouts Recap: 3/18 - 3/24

I feel like I've been on a roll this week!  I've been running, planking and going to Fusion.  I feel my arms toning and my abs toning more.  It's a great feeling!  This is my workouts thus far this week...
Monday 3/18:  4 miles on the treadmill  (8:07 pace)

Tuesday 3/19:  7.2 miles - 3.1 miles on the treadmill (8:09 pace) then I took Eli and Knox for a 4.11 mile walk (16:22 pace)

Wednesday 3/20:  I went to my Fusion Memphis class.  I love this class.  Earlier in the day, I picked up a Polar FT4 heart rate monitor, so I was able to use it for class.
Stay tuned for a post later in the week about this watch...

Thursday 3/21:  5 miles on the treadmill (8:07 pace) - this was the best treadmill run I've had in a long time

Friday 3/22: 4 miles on the treadmill (7:58 pace)...I attribute this run to my first 7 hours of consecutive sleep.  Thank you, Eli!

Saturday 3/23:  I was supposed to run a 5K today, but it was cold and rainy, so I opted for Fusion Memphis + a core class.  I'm so glad I stayed for Core.  It was great to go back to the basics and really concentrate on working my abs.

Sunday 3/24:  I need to do my long run today (7 miles).  It's been raining since Friday and I have to get it in sometime this week.

I think I forgot to include that I've been participating in "Plank Month" this month.  It's a killer.  I dread today's 4 minutes of planking.  It's truly been a workout and I can really tell a difference.
How were your workouts this week?

Best Spring Recipe

I really couldn't just think of one recipe that was really my Spring go-to recipe.  So, I thought about it and realized that what I'm most excited about whipping up in the kitchen this Spring are recipes that include fresh fruits.  I feel like the warmer weather makes me want to eat lighter and fruits just seem to quench my cravings for most of the sweet stuff.

Here's what I'm looking forward to making this Spring...

Banana Bread
My mouth is literally watering just thinking about these delicious dishes!  What's your best Spring recipe??

Spring DIY

I'm not the craftiest person and I really don't have the time right now to start learning, but there are some things I want to create.

The two DIY's on my to-do list aren't necessarily Spring related, but they need to get done ASAP.  Here's what I am planning on doing in the next few weeks...

Create Eli's birth to 3 month book on Shutterfly
Shutterfly now has a story time series and I am so excited to check it out!
organize all of Eli's cards that he's received from birth...right now, they're just sitting in a pile on the counter, but I want to make a cute little keepsake for him.

What's on your Spring DIY list this year??

Monday:  Spring Bucket List
Tuesday 3/19:  Spring Fashion

Today's Topic:

Spring Cleaning

I am completely embarrassed to show you these pictures, but this is my closet...
I will preface this with this being the messiest part of my house.  All of the other rooms are picked up and organized.  My closet, on the other hand, isn't.

This madness will definitely be my Spring cleaning project of the season.  My closet has been severely neglected since we brought Eli home.  Honestly, I didn't fully get unpacked from that until a couple of weeks ago.

I need to go through my clothes and purge the ones I haven't worn.  And I certainly need to create some sort of organization to this mess!!!

What's on your Spring Cleaning list this year?

Don't forget about the link-up schedule:
