Back in the Saddle

Although I got the go ahead to start running again at my 6 weeks postpartum check up, it wasn't until 8 weeks that I actually laced up my running shoes and hit the pavement.

Why did I wait?  First, I didn't have the time.  Two boys under two is busy.  Second, I was scared.  I hadn't run since June 2013.  In my head, I knew I could do it, but I didn't know how my body would respond.  It had been months and I had just given birth to a human, but I knew that all of the walking I did while pregnant had to count for something.

I started off slow and steady.  My goal was to finish 2 miles.  I went into it knowing I might have to do a run/walk combination, but I am proud to say I ran the entire way.

My time wasn't important.  I was just proud that I actually finished.
After that first run, I felt like myself again.  I was pumped so much that I asked my parents if I could use/move their treadmill to my house so I could have one at home and wouldn't have to waste time driving to the gym.  Thankfully, they agreed.  Now, I can run upstairs before the boys wake or when they go to bed and I don't have to be far away if Fred needs help with the boys.

The weather has been perfect this week so I've been running outside when Fred comes home from work.  Yes, it's hard, but I am doing it and it feels good!

I can't wait to really get things going and get a running routine down.  Now, if only the boys would cooperate...  :)

Good for you! Exercise is such a great way to maintain a little sanity and energy when you're keeping up with two little ones. It can be so hard to fit it in but I'm always glad when I do. You'll be feeling back to your old self in no time!

So great. We recently bought a new treadmill and it's been a lifesaver. I can go for a run anytime without leaving the house.

Great job! Glad you're back at it.

Good for you! I have a hard enough time finding the time with only ONE, I'm already wondering how in the world I'll find them time with TWO! But we do have a treadmill now too so hopefully I'll make it work :)
